The four-day event provided an accessible learning platform where students and members of the public could explore science, technology, and natural history through exhibitions, experiments, and interactive activities. It also strengthened educational collaboration among a national science organisation, a higher education institution, regional schools, and partner networks.
The event was designed to expand opportunities for young people to gain scientific knowledge and meaningful learning experiences beyond the classroom. Through engaging and easy-to-understand activities, participants were encouraged to observe, experiment, ask questions, and discover answers independently.
Benjamarachutit School served as the coordinating centre for the Upper Southern Science and Technology Classroom Schools Network. Working with Walailak University and NSM, the school connected educational institutions throughout the region and encouraged them to participate in activities that made science enjoyable, understandable, and relevant to learners’ everyday lives.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Ms. Porntip Boonluek, Director of the Secondary Educational Service Area Office Nakhon Si Thammarat. Mr. Nattawut Rattanarun, Director of Benjamarachutit School, delivered the welcoming remarks, while Mr. Suwit Paonariang, Director of the Business and Network Development Office at the National Science Museum Thailand, presented the event report.
On this occasion, Associate Professor Dr. Chatchai Kalyanapaphon, Director of Walailak University Botanic Park, attended the opening ceremony and visited the exhibitions and learning activities. The event received considerable interest from students, teachers, parents, and members of the public.
A major highlight presented by Walailak University Botanic Park was the interactive exhibition booth titled “SCI-VERSE: Sky, Forest, and Sea.” The exhibition communicated scientific and natural history knowledge through hands-on activities that encouraged participants to learn by playing, thinking, observing, experimenting, and seeking answers for themselves.
The booth integrated knowledge from astronomy, biodiversity, and ecosystem studies. Participants explored stories of the sky and outer space, discovered the remarkable diversity of life in forest ecosystems, and learned about the importance of marine organisms and natural resources in maintaining healthy ocean ecosystems.
Walailak Botanic Park also introduced visitors to the learning opportunities available at the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Natural History Museum, Walailak University, or SIRIN MUSEUM. The museum welcomes students, young people, families, and the general public throughout the year to explore natural history exhibitions, participate in creative activities, and discover the stories of nature through immersive learning experiences.
The strong response from educational networks across the upper southern region, with more than 7,000 registered participants, reflected the growing interest among young people and educational institutions in science, technology, and natural history learning.
The collaboration among Walailak University, the National Science Museum Thailand, Benjamarachutit School, and their partner networks represents an important mechanism for building a dynamic learning ecosystem. It gives young people opportunities to experience science through hands-on practice while fostering curiosity and inspiring them to pursue further studies in science and technology.
The NSM Science Caravan 2026 also encouraged children and young people to recognise the value of biodiversity, natural resources, and environmental conservation. At the same time, the activities helped develop analytical thinking, questioning skills, and lifelong learning—essential foundations for the sustainable development of society and the nation.
