On Saturday, 10 January 2026, Walailak University, in collaboration with a wide network of public and private sector partners, organized National Children’s Day 2026 under the theme “My Children’s Day…The Wonder of a University City.” The event aimed to open the University’s learning spaces to children and young people, providing opportunities to explore science, nature, technology, creativity, and life skills while promoting Thai values and environmental responsibility.
The opening ceremony was held at the Busarakham Auditorium, The Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Natural History Museum (SIRIN Museum), with more than 1,000 participants, including children, students, parents, teachers, university administrators, staff members, and representatives from partner organizations.
The ceremony was presided over by Mr. Prasong Chanhyu, Chief District Officer of Tha Sala District, while Associate Professor Dr. Suwit Wuthisuthimethavee, Vice President for Strategic Planning and Good Governance, Walailak University, delivered the welcoming remarks.
In his address, Associate Professor Dr. Suwit highlighted Walailak University’s role as a learning institution serving society and emphasized the importance of creating educational experiences beyond the conventional classroom.
He noted that the University established Walailak Botanic Park in support of the Plant Genetic Conservation Project under the Royal Initiative of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn (RSPG). Covering more than 1,350 rai, the Botanic Park has been developed as a center for the collection, conservation, research, and sustainable utilization of natural resources, as well as an important learning and ecotourism destination in southern Thailand.
For National Children’s Day 2026, the University opened a range of major learning attractions and facilities to young visitors, including SIRIN Museum, Sky Tower, the Wildlife Breeding Facility, plant collection houses, the Small Animal Hospital, and Walailak Botanic Park.
These learning spaces allowed children to experience nature, biodiversity, wildlife, science, and the environment firsthand, helping transform the University campus into what could truly be described as a “wonderful university city” for learning.
The event was also closely aligned with Walailak University’s Green University policy and the 2026 Children’s Day message “Love Thailand, Care for the World.” The activities were designed not only to entertain young participants but also to encourage environmental awareness, social responsibility, curiosity, and a broader understanding of their role as future global citizens.
This year’s event was made possible through cooperation with more than 30 partner organizations from both within and outside the University. Participating organizations included the 4th Army Region, Rotary Club of Tha Sala–Nakhon Si Thammarat, Nakhon Si Thammarat Primary Educational Service Area Office 4, Krungthai Bank, and the Government Savings Bank, among many others.
Throughout the day, children and families participated in a wide range of interactive learning stations, science and technology activities, performances, creative workshops, games, and educational exhibitions. These activities were designed to combine enjoyment with meaningful knowledge, encouraging children to explore, question, experiment, and learn through direct experience.
Visits to SIRIN Museum and the surrounding learning facilities also reinforced the University’s mission under RSPG by introducing young people to biodiversity, ecosystems, plants, wildlife, conservation, and sustainable resource use.
By bringing together education, science, culture, nature, technology, and environmental responsibility in one event, Walailak University sought to create a memorable Children’s Day experience while demonstrating that a university can serve as a living learning city for children, families, schools, and communities.
The event also reflected the University’s long-term commitment to nurturing young people who are curious, creative, socially responsible, environmentally conscious, and ready to learn continuously in a rapidly changing world.
Through “My Children’s Day…The Wonder of a University City,” Walailak University reaffirmed its role as a place where knowledge, imagination, nature, and opportunity come together—helping inspire the next generation toward a more sustainable future.
