The training formed part of Walailak University Botanic Park’s ongoing efforts to enhance safety standards and emergency preparedness across its public learning and service areas. Through a combination of theoretical instruction and hands-on exercises, participants learned how to assess fire-related risks, select appropriate firefighting equipment, respond safely to an incipient fire, and make appropriate decisions when an incident exceeds their ability to control it.

                The programme was led by Associate Professor Dr. Chatchai Kalyanapaphon, Director of Walailak University Botanic Park, together with Assistant Professor Dr. Pairoj Nuannum, Deputy Director of Walailak University Botanic Park, and personnel from various operational units.

                The training placed particular emphasis on building a strong safety culture and ensuring that personnel are prepared to protect themselves, assist visitors, and respond appropriately to emergencies occurring within the Botanic Park.

                Expert instructors in disaster prevention, mitigation, and occupational safety were invited from the Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, Sichon Branch. The team included Mr. Supasak Poolprakob, Ms. Chinyapha Khongsawat, Mr. Anurak Kesornsith, Mr. Surin Meepal, Mr. Theerayut Chaiyaruek, Mr. Surachet Poathongkham, Mr. Thanattat Inthasa, Mr. Damrongsak Olarnchon, Mr. Somkiat Singto, Mr. Surapong Jaided, and Mr. Ittipol Thongthanang.

                Additional technical support was provided by specialists from the Walailak University Medical Center, led by Mr. Nattakit Rattanaphan, Engineer, together with professional safety officers Ms. Sumarin Sailamul, Mr. Wittaya Panprayoon, and Mr. Piyawat Suli. The team shared practical knowledge and professional experience in workplace safety management and fire emergency response.

                The morning session focused on theoretical knowledge. Participants completed a pre-training assessment before learning about relevant safety laws and regulations, the basic elements of fire, classifications of fire, hazards caused by fire and smoke, principles for selecting suitable fire extinguishers, preliminary situation assessment, and decision-making when confronted with an emergency.

                The session also addressed the psychological aspects of emergency response, particularly the importance of remaining calm, assessing risks before taking action, and recognising the limits of personal firefighting capability.

                From 1:15 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., participants took part in practical firefighting exercises under the close supervision of the instructors. Each participant had the opportunity to operate different types of fire extinguishers and practise responding to simulated emergency situations.

                The practical training covered incipient-stage firefighting, the correct use of fire extinguishers, the use of fire blankets, situational assessment, emergency coordination, and teamwork during fire incidents.

                The simulated exercises enabled participants to transform theoretical knowledge into practical skills that can be applied in real situations. Participants practised maintaining situational awareness, assessing hazards, choosing suitable firefighting equipment according to the type of fire, approaching a fire safely, and determining when evacuation and professional emergency assistance are necessary.

                These skills are particularly important for Walailak University Botanic Park, which serves large numbers of students, teachers, families, tourists, and members of the public throughout the year. Strengthening the emergency response capability of personnel is therefore an essential measure for reducing risks, preventing loss of life and property, and enhancing confidence among visitors and service users.
