Walailak University Hosts “WRC 2026,” Uniting Global Higher Education to Advance Carbon Neutrality and Sustainability with Scholars from 17 Countries
Walailak University successfully hosted the Walailak Research Convention 2026 (WRC 2026) from 25–28 March 2026 under the theme “Global Higher Education Synergy in Driving Carbon Neutrality and Sustainability.” The event welcomed academics, researchers, and experts from more than 17 countries, creating an international platform for exchanging knowledge on research, innovation, and sustainable development at the university’s campus in Nakhon Si Thammarat.
As a leading research university, Walailak University continues to strengthen its international role through WRC 2026 by fostering collaboration in addressing two of the world’s most pressing challenges: carbon neutrality and sustainability. The convention also highlighted the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in enhancing interdisciplinary research efficiency and supporting data-driven decision-making in modern higher education.
The official opening ceremony on 26 March 2026 was presided over by Dr. Phanpheumsak Arunee at SIRIN MUSEUM. Welcoming remarks were delivered by Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, while the conference report was presented by Associate Professor Dr. Siwarit Pongsakrangsilp.
Walailak University has also demonstrated continuous progress in research excellence. According to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026, the university achieved notable recognition in Research Quality and improved its overall performance score.
The convention featured keynote lectures and special sessions by distinguished international speakers, including Professor Anthony Gerard O’Donnell from Murdoch University, who shared insights on innovation for a sustainable future and the application of AI to support global net-zero carbon goals.
WRC 2026 marks another significant milestone for Walailak University in elevating academic exchange between Thai and international scholars, translating research into real-world impact, and contributing meaningfully to sustainable development at both national and global levels.
